CFACDL is a sponsor for the CFAWL Judicial Reception on Monday, November 7, 2016, from 5:30 p.m to 7:30 p.m at the Old Courthouse at the Downtown History Center.

We are happy to be a sponsor at this event as it seeks to honor all of the judges that serve our communities from Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Brevard, Lake and Volusia counties, as well as the judges from the Fifth District Court of Appeals, the federal district court judges from the Middle District of Florida, the bankruptcy judges, the social security judges, and the workers’ compensation judges in Central Florida.

Our next CFACDL luncheon is on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Citrus Club. The first elected African American State Attorney in Florida, Aramis Ayala, is our featured speaker and she will discuss her new role and take some questions at the end.

A note from former CFACDL President and FACDL Board Member Jim Skuthan:

Dear CFACDL Member:

As you are aware, the Office of the Federal Defender previously scheduled a two day District Court Orientation Seminar on Thursday, October 27, 2016 and Friday, October 28, 2016 in the United States Courthouse in Orlando. Because we will not be able to film this seminar in the courthouse, we will have to reschedule. We will attempt to find another venue where we can present this two day seminar and tape the presentation as well for future viewing. We are looking to reschedule it after the first of the year, probably in late January. As soon as a date and location has been finalized, we will let you know.

Also, the Federal Defender’s Office presented a full day federal practice Appellate Seminar on September 30, 2016. The free seminar covered all aspects of handling a criminal appeal in the Eleventh Circuit. The Central Florida Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys (CFACDL) paid for the taping of the seminar by a professional videographer. As soon as the recorded Appellate Seminar is available for viewing, we will let you know.

In the meantime, if you have any questions about either seminar, please do not hesitate to myself, Jim Skuthan (jim_skuthan@fd.org) or Margaret Bundy (margaret_bundy@fd.org). Thank you for your interest in the seminars and we look forward to seeing you at the orientation seminar in the near future.

Thanks,

Jim Skuthan
